Mexico vs United States: Nations League Final

Carlos is bien pinche excited about the upcoming Nations League final between Mexico and the United States, and is preparing a feast for his family and friends to enjoy while watching the game, who are all rooting for a Mexican victory… except for Greg.

Greg
Hey Carlos, I see you have everything ready for the game.

Carlos
A huevo! I got the carne asada going, my famous bean dip, guacamole, and of course, some cervezas. It’s going to be chingon!

Greg
That sounds fantastic! I’m sure it’s going to be a good one. I have high hopes that the US national team will come up on top, especially since they’ve been the better side in recent matches.

Carlos
Keep dreaming Greg. This time it’s going to be different. Mexico has el Jimmy Lozano, and not only is the team playing better, but we won the Gold Cup last year.

Greg
Well, that’s only because Mexico didn’t face the US in the final. Otherwise, it would have been a very different outcome.

Carlos
And why is that Greg? The US couldn’t even beat Panama in the semi-final.

Greg
True, true, but it was a rather unfortunate turn of events due to the toss-up that was the penalty shoot out. It was just not their day.

Carlos
Sure Greg, make all the excuses you want, but today, Mexico is better!

Greg
Oh, is that so? How about a little wager between neighbors, amongst “amigos”?

Carlos
Claro Greg, I’m game. Yo no me rajo! What did you have in mind?

Greg
Oh nothing big. How about… loser washes the other’s vehicle for a week?

Carlos
A car wash!? Sure Greg, “La Mamalona” can sure use some cleaning. Are you sure you can handle her?

Greg
I’ll manage Carlos. Just go easy on the coupe when you lose.

Carlos
Sin pedo! You’re on.

A few hours later…

Carlos
Okay, that was a bunch of bullshit! Mexico did absolutely nothing – ni metio las pinches manos.

Greg
I told you Carlos. The US national team is a lot better than Mexico now. You can’t even call it close.

Carlos
NI MADRES!!! Mexico is still the Concacaf giant. This is just one game.

Greg
Actually… it’s been a few consecutive games that they have lost to the US now.

Carlos
It’s the players’ fault! No le hechan ganas! They’re a bunch of conformistas! Where’s the energy, the passion, the dedication? They’re not hungry, and we’ll never win anything big with that attitude. My friends in “El Barrio” have more huevos than them.

Greg
It is simply progress Carlos. The US has invested a lot of time and effort into the sport, properly training youth and giving them opportunities to grow. We have players in the best leagues in the world. Mexico on the other hand, it seems like they just want a quick paycheck, trying to milk the national team for as much money as possible without truly caring about growth. It’s a shame really. The current state of things was inevitable.

Carlos
There you go again with your logic Greg. I can’t say that you’re wrong, and I have to admit, los gringos si se la rifaron. But if WE had true professionals on the Mexican team playing with a winning attitude, then things would be different. Our players should be busting their culos every single day as much as possible, to be the best. Hard work is tattooed into the veins of every single Mexican here that I know. But THESE guys… they don’t have the mentality.

Greg
Well Carlos, like I said, Mexico can beat the rest, but not the best. And the US is now the best soccer team in the region. This was a classic “Dos a cero” as one would say.

Carlos

Greg
I’ll be heading out now Carlos. I think that I… might go for a drive. Thank you for a great evening. See you around amigo.

Carlos
… pinches mamadas.
